Lalibela (Ethiopia)

Ethiopia was never colonized by a European country, and thus managed to preserve its extreme multi-ethnicity for posterity. The holy city of Lalibela in the country’s interior, with its unique UNESCO protected stone churches, belongs to one of more than 80 different ethnic groups, in a country that started out with the ape woman Lucy (model pictured) more than 3,2 million years ago.
