Fractured Smiles
«A given end to your dreams»
Even in their most dire of circumstances people tend to smile in front of my camera. I want to believe it’s the prospect of being immortalized – and our common inherent instinct to that end – that brings the glimmer of joy to their faces.
People almost always obliges.
My long acquired sensibilities as a photographer makes me wary of their apprehension, and our mutual acknowledgement that for a fraction of a second time pauses and forever bonds us.
This project is a homage to the thousands of people I have fixed to my focal plane. I hope the viewer upon closer inspection will sense the wariness coming across, and hopefully stir some emotion and – most importantly – reflection on the human condition.
The titular idea of the project is taken from New Orders song «Dreams never end» (Movement, 1981)
